My mom had open heart surgery early Friday morning and last I heard from my brother late last night she continues to do very well, especially for an 89 year old woman who usually can run circles around me! She was due to go in for knee replacement surgery and during the pre-op tests they discovered an aneurysm on her aorta and that needed to be taken care of before the knee surgery. She is at the Univ of Penn hospital system in Philly in the cardiac ICU for a few days before moving to a regular room. I was able to video chat with her through my brother yesterday afternoon and she had some loopy moments but also some clear moments. Before she went in for surgery she had my brother send me a picture of her sticking her tongue out at me and being silly. She is going to keep the nurses on their toes for sure! :) She has always been and will always be young at heart. She taught kindergarten and first grade for over 35 years and has always been my inspiration for being a teacher. I always wanted to be just like her. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers during her recovery :)
Please continue to talk with and work with your children on table manners and being kind to everyone. Things have improved a lot and we want to continue to see them improve and be awesome friends all the time!
I love to see the creativity that is coming out of the children! On their own they decided to have a royal ball and made invitations and set up chairs for the audience to watch and they had such fun ballroom dancing!
In the block center they have been creating some amazing structures and zoos and dinosaur parks!
On Friday I read to them before nap time a really cute book about Sam, a mouse who lives in a hole in the wall in the library. He loves to read the books and decides he wants to be an author. At night he writes little stories and leaves them around in different sections of the library for people to read. He left on in the mystery section, the picture book and other places. Everyone wanted to meet the author and he knew people were afraid of mice so he set up an empty box of tissues with a mirror inside and placed a sign over top that said "meet the author". When the children looked inside they saw their own faces.
This gave me an idea and they kids are so excited about it. We are going to write our own stories and on Wednesday we are having a meet the author day.
- On this Wednesday, the 13th, we will be providing refreshments for you to sit and eat while your child reads their story to you. Please plan a few extra minutes in the morning during drop off to sit and eat and read with your child...it can be mom, dad, aunt, grandparent..anyone can sit and eat and read with your child.
- Friday is Doughnuts for Dad...during morning drop off time
- Please apply sunscreen to your child in the mornings before coming to school
- Please make sure your child has a water bottle filled with water to drink during the day and to take outside with them when we go to play.
